The 8-day Lemosho is the sweet spot of Kilimanjaro itineraries.
It sits between the rushed 7-day Machame (tight timeline, compressed acclimatisation) and the extended 10-day (more time, more cost). The 7-day Lemosho gives you the Lava Tower acclimatisation day that makes the real difference between 80% and 90% summit probability. The 2-day northern circuit safari adds Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire — the two parks that define Tanzania's safari identity — without eating into mountain time.
The itinerary is simple: 7 days on the mountain, 1 day in the parks. The mountain is the main event. The safari is the celebration.

The 7-day Lemosho gives your body an extra day above 4,000m compared to the 6-day Machame. That one extra day dramatically improves your odds.

The 8-day itinerary
Arusha — Gear Check & Briefing
Airport transfer to Arusha. Gear check at our office — we provide everything you are missing. Climb briefing with your lead guide. Overnight at a Arusha lodge with hot shower and real bed before the mountain.
Lemosho Gate → Mti Mkulwa Camp
Drive 3 hours to the Lemosho Gate (2,100m). Trek through pristine rainforest to Mti Mkulwa Camp (2,750m). 4–5 hours. The Lemosho approach is the most scenic of all Kili routes — you will see the mountain in its entirety from camp on night one.
Mti Mkulwa → Shira Camp 1
Climb through moorland and into the Kibo glaciated zone. Shira Camp 1 (3,750m) sits on the Shira Plateau with unobstructed views of Kibo Peak. 5–6 hours. Your first night above 3,000m — take it slow.
Shira Camp 1 → Barranco Camp
Cross the Shira Plateau to Lava Tower (4,630m) — the critical acclimatisation climb. Then descend to Barranco Camp (3,900m). 7–8 hours. This is the day that makes Lemosho safer than Machame: you climb high, sleep low.
Barranco Wall → Karanga Camp
Scale the Barranco Wall (this is the most-photographed section of any Kili route — it looks more dramatic than it is). Then traverse to Karanga Camp (4,035m). 4–5 hours. Afternoon rest at Karanga — hydration and food are critical today.
Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp
Short steep climb to Barafu Camp (4,673m). This is summit base. Rest, hydrate, carb-load. The guides will brief you on summit night. Early dinner and sleep by 19:00 — you will wake at 23:00.
Summit Night → Mweka Camp
Wake at 23:00. Midnight departure for the 7-hour climb to Stella Point (5,739m), then Uhuru Peak (5,895m) at sunrise. The Rim of the crater is one of the most surreal places on Earth at dawn. Descend 4 hours to Mweka Camp (3,100m). You will sleep before noon and eat by early afternoon.
Mweka Gate → Ngorongoro Crater → Arusha
Short descent to Mweka Gate. Drive 4 hours to Ngorongoro Crater. Dawn descent into the crater — 6 hours of game drives, targeting black rhino, elephant, lion, and cheetah. Ascend the crater rim in the late afternoon. Transfer to Arusha. Trip ends. Or: extend with Zanzibar beach recovery.
