Great Migration: Northern Serengeti
By June, the wildebeest herds have moved north into the Lamai Triangle and northern Serengeti. The Mara River crossings are underway — not yet at peak density but happening daily. The key advantage of June over July: there are far fewer vehicles at the crossing points. You can watch a crossing with 5 vehicles instead of 50.
Shoulder Season: Best Value
June prices are 10–20% below peak season rates. Lodge availability is good. The mountain is quiet in the first two weeks before the European school holiday rush. This is the best combination of price, weather, and availability that Tanzania offers in the high-season window.
Green Season Landscapes
While the parks are drying out, the surrounding landscapes in June retain some of the green-season lushness. The grass is shorter (better wildlife viewing), the foliage is less dense (easier to spot animals), and the photography lighting is excellent — golden hour in June has a quality that July's drier air doesn't match.
